SUP Boro, Draft

Moving to a location can be scary for anyone at any age. You need to learn to deal with new people, new things and getting lost in buildings you are in on a daily basis. Getting to know history of the area and places to go increase how comfortable you can feel in a new area. Luckily for me I have become acclimated to the area and I have gotten to know it pretty well. As a student, there are both things to do on and off campus.

The first thing the new students and freshman should learn about it is Student University Programmers. They offer low-cost or free activities both at Rowan and other locations. Students are offered a variety of activities to give them options, other than walking to the caf and bookstore constantly. This week alone they are offering a free movie on Wednesday, a trip to New York City to visit the Sex Museum and tickets to the Winter Ball. For those students not able to have a car on campus (freshman or students with less than 24 credits) they offer shuttles to both Wal-Mart and the Deptford Mall.

Their biggest events of the school year include a famous comedian and a big musician. In the past years Rowan has been lucky to see Bob Saget, Dane Cook, Daniel Tosh, Zach Galifinakis, and Anziz Ansari this year. Profstock began last year with Reel Big Fish and Third Eye Blind, Sean Kingston was scheduled to perform but had trouble with his flight and had to miss it. 2011’s Profstock includes new superstar Ke$ha, Ludacris and LMFAO who is primarily known for their song “Shots!” and the Jersey Shore theme song. The show will be in April and students will be able to purchase tickets for ten dollars, you can’t see any of those acts without paying at the very least thirty dollars and a processing fee on any ticketing site.

Another thing Rowan SUP offers to students is Rowan After Hours, an event that takes place three times per weekend (Thursday, Friday, Saturday). They offer free activities to those students who wish to spend their weekend doing things that do not involve drinking. While that activity is popular amongst students of all ages, Rowan After Hours has proved to be successful. They have a midnight snack bar which is a buffet style of whatever food they have planned for that day; ranging from wings, a cereal bar, pizza bar and a sundae bar.

SUP is a good answer for those not knowing what to do or who have trouble meeting people and making new friends. Their calendar can be found here (http://www.rowansup.com/) as well as FAQ and photos of past events. You can also fill out a contact form with any questions you may have about the programs and places that they offer trips to.

  1. I like how you mentioned some of the past events that SUP held and the ones that are coming up. It helps us see that SUP offers a lot of things besides just things at the Student Center.
